Kelpp and Twitter

We are testing out some (hopefully) cool new features for Twitter users. In order to try these out, you will need to log into your Twitter account. When you do this, we will automatically configure your account to follow Kelppme (and vice versa) which enables you to use the features.

Don't worry - we use OAuth to securely log you in to Twitter (we never see or store your password).

Using Kelpp with Twitter

We know that people often ask their Twitter followers for recommendations - whether it's for restaurants, shops, or service providers. By adding a little bit of markup to your Tweets, you can not only ask your friends, but also tap into Kelpp - without ever having to leave your Twitter client.

An example will make it clear how this works. Suppose you tweet the following message:

hey folks where are good places for `cardamom tea` in the /Seattle, WA/ area?

After sending this tweet, Kelpp will automatically reply with a tweet that looks like the following, which contains a link to the appropriate search results page.

Pretty neat, huh? What makes this work is that little bit of markup you provide in your tweets.

You indicate the "things" you're looking for by putting them in between a pair of backquotes, for example: `reliable plumber`. You can also mark individual words with a single backquote, for example: `pet-friendly `hotel.
You indicate the location you're looking for these things by putting it in between a pair of forward slashes, for example: /Boston, MA/. You can also mark a one-word location with a single slash, for example /JFK will search near JFK airport. (This is a simplified version of the geoslash syntax created by Stowe Boyd.)
Alternatively, if you have set your Twitter location to a value that we can understand (i.e. would work when searching Google Maps), you can choose to omit an explicit location in your tweet. In this case, Kelpp will search based on your Twitter location. For example, suppose your location is set "Boston, MA" and you tweet have a craving for `sushi - any recommendations? - Kelpp will reply back with a link for sushi recommendations in the Boston area.
